How
does Botox® work? ˜
The lines that
appear on our faces are caused by the many expressions we make each
day and by exposure to the elements over a period of time. There
are tiny facial muscles that are related to the expression lines.
Botox® blocks the nerve impulses, which reduces movement of the facial
muscles. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin gradually smooths
out and remains unwrinkled while the treated facial muscles work as
usual without affecting normal facial expression. |
What
will the treatment involve? ˜
Botox® is a quick, easy treatment. It is minimally invasive and has no
down time. The procedure is done by making tiny injections using a
small amount of Botox® into several locations on the face. The
discomfort associated with the injections is minimal because the
needle is so fine, therefore no local anesthesia is required. This
simple, safe procedure allows you to resume normal activities
immediately. You can even have it done on your lunch hour. |
How
soon will I see results and how long will it last? ˜
Within days after having your treatment,
you can expect to see results. Some deeper lines may take up to a
week. The results of the treatment last up to four months, however
results may vary. |
What
are the possible side effects? ˜ Patients may experience temporary bruising or redness where the
medicine is injected which usually subsides within the first week.
Other side effects include temporary muscle weakness in nearby
muscles and in rare cases, drooping of an eyelid. Side effects
of BOTOX are reversible and last no more then a few weeks. |
